ACF Closes Doors

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-- Nearly halfway into its third season and having just expanded to 16 teams, American Championship Football announced that it is closing operations.

The league had two past champions, the Iowa Mustangs and the West Virginia Wildcats.  The Wildcats were undefeated this season as well and were considered serious contenders to win the Glory Bowl a second consecutive time.

"It's just gotten too big for us to handle," ACF chairman Fred Tixon said. "We had a great thing going, but we just couldn't keep it going."

The league had been so popular it began taking teams away from the American Football Alliance.  Some teams, including the New York Nitro, waited several seasons to get on board.
